Oranchelo: A New Flat Icon Theme for Ubuntu/Linux MInt

You may have tried lots of icon themes and you may have a favorite but it is always a good idea to give try a new theme, who knows you may like. Here we are presenting you a new icon theme 'Oranchelo' which made way to Linux last year and continuously adding new icons. It is created with the design techniques "flat" and "Flat Long Shadow". Basically it is inspired by two icon themes "super-flat-remix" and "Cornie icons", some icons are also extracted from the pack Plateau icon theme. There is an official PPA from creator of this pack but only offers package for Ubuntu/Linux Mint/other Ubuntu derivatives. Since this icon theme is in active development, if you encounter any missing icon then directly report it creator via Github page. Arc theme suite used in the following screenshots and you can use Unity Tweak ToolGnome-tweak-tool to change themes/icons.

Easily Share Files Between Windows / Linux / Macs Over Network Using NitroShare [Updated]

NitroShare is very handy application to send files from remote computer to any connected computer in the same network. Most of the time no necessary configuration required to send/receive files between computers using NitroShare. It is cross-platform available for Linux, Windows and Mac, which mean you can easily transfer files between two machines doesn't matter they're Windows/Mac or Windows/Linux or Linux/Mac. All network computers can immediately find each other and allows sharing.

NitroShare introduced the "share boxes", which are small widgets that stay on the desktop. Each share box represents different machine on the network, user can simply drag and drop file/folder on the widget to send it to the machine. It allows to create a share box that will ask which machine you want to send files.
The application integrates with the operating system, using application indicators on Ubuntu and the system tray on Windows. In Ubuntu, user can use its indicator to send file/folder to other machines.

Some other features:
  • Dynamic file compress during transfer to decrease transfer time and bandwidth
  • CRC checksum generation to ensure file integrity during transfer
  • Full compatibility with clients running on other operating systems
  • A helpful configuration wizard to guide you through setting up the application on your machines
  • The application was developed using the Qt framework and therefore runs on any platform supported by Qt, including Windows, Mac, and Linux.
You can also configure samba sharing between Linux and Windows.

After installation, run NitroShare on both machines and select first option for easy configuration.

digiKam 5.x Photography Application Available For Ubuntu/Linux Mint

digiKam is digital photo management application for specially designed for KDE desktop environment. Digital photo management program designed to import, organize, enhance, search and export your digital images to and from your computer. It provides a simple interface which makes importing and organizing digital photographs a "snap". The photos are organized in albums which can be sorted chronologically, by folder layout or by custom collections. digiKam enables you to manage large numbers of digital photographs in albums and to organize these photographs for easy retrieval using tags (keywords), captions, collections, dates, geolocation and searches. It has many features for viewing, organizing, processing and sharing your images. Thus, digiKam is a formidable digital asset management (DAM) software including powerful image editing functions. An easy-to-use camera interface is provided, that will connect to your digital camera and download photographs directly into digiKam albums. More than 1000 digital cameras are supported by the gphoto2 library. Of course, any media or card reader supported by your operating system will interface with digiKam.

digiKam incorporates a fast Image Editor with many image editing tools. You can use the Image Editor to view your photographs, comment and rate them, correct, enhance and alter them. The editing power can be easily extended by a set of plugins, the KDE Image Plugins Interface (manual). While digiKam remains easy to use, it provides professional level features by the dozens. It is fully 16 bit enabled including all available plugins, supports RAW format conversion through libraw, DNG export and ICC color management work flow. digiKam can also make use of the KIPI image handling plugins to extend its capabilities even further for photo manipulations, import and export, etc. The kipi-plugins package contains many very useful extensions.
